First, thank you Paul for all the advice I’ve read so far.

This is the first time I’ve seen mentioned where citrus fruits may be a factor. I guess the same goes for citrus based juices as well?

    Thanks.

I could only speak about my own experience. However, anything citrus i.e.: orange, lemon, grapefruit, made my tinnitus go way up. That includes all citrus juices.

I used to eat crates of oranges (tangerines!). Grapefruit used to be my breakfast. So it was difficult giving them up. Well not really, the increase in volume was a strong motivator to stay away.

PS. I’m curious to know if you see any changes in your tinnitus volume when you eat citrus. Let me know!

    Paul

Hi, I agree with all that I’ve read on Paul Toby’s site and believe that the mind is much more powerful than most people realise. My tinnitus (along with most other peoples I’ve been told) was brought on by stress; I began listening to the perfectly normal noises that we have in our brain but only become aware of when in a state of ‘fight or flight’ due to high stress levels causing too much adrenaline. So…my question is to anyone out there willing to reply; if a person has stress induced tinnitus, how can eating citrus fruits make it worse? If the noises are there all the time and due to stress they become more noticable how can diet affest that? Hope I get an answer from someone but I intend to buy the online book anyway so maybe the answer is there! Thanks.

its funny about the mind control issue, I think it has value. I’ve been a chronic tinnitus sufferer for nearly 30 years, it first started to develop it in the winter of 1982. I’d had a pretty serious motorbike crash 12months earlier(damaging neck),I also damaged my hearing frequently with motor bike noise and loud music. I gradually experienced a increase in noise that was in the beginning only noticeable at night when I was trying to go to sleep. I thought I was going MAD and having auditory hallucinations. Also at the same time I was getting very sharp jaw pain from time to time.TMJ.
Probably one thing I consciously did was to stop personalizing the tinnitus as mine. i stopped saying “my tinnitus” its not mine, I never wanted it. After that, somehow after time it lost some of its destructive force with me. Believe me I experienced every emotion, was very stressed, hopeless, and even self destructive.I allowed it to be a focus in my life. Nothing changed its course for me, it gradually got louder. I got good relief from a masking machine while it was on.

Anyway today the tinnitus is as loud as ever 24 hours of every day,but I don’t think about it much these days. These days I might stop in the day and direct my attention to it, yes its still there. I still keep an eye out for treatments I haven’t tried but I’m living with it! Sometimes it distracts me when I’m concentrating hard on something.
Yes I’d like it to go but my point is I have stopped being stressed and angry at it. I know this isn’t much help to someone who is desperately stressed but I will just keep looking for a cure and I even feel optimistic that that it will happen. Maybe soon .
