Famous Piano Players, well-known Hockey Dad and Benedictine Monk… What do they have in common?

Someone wrote me a quick email one day and asked who the pictures were on the front page of my website http://www.paultobey.com/

So, here is the answer from the left to right…

Picture #1 - Me, pianist Paul Tobey

Picture #2 - Paul Tobey and Padre Ramon. a monk of the Benedictine Order I met at Santo Domingo de Silos, Spain 2005. This is the famous Benedictine Monks whos CDs of chanting have sold over 6 millions copies.

Picture #3 - Paul Tobey, my lovely wife Nancy and very famous hockey dad Walter Gretzky at the 2005 Tourism Awards in Brantford.

Picture # 4 - Paul Tobey and famous piano player and composer Dave Brubeck taken backstage at Place des Arts at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2006.

Gino Empry dies.  Now, it seems that ends an era of the great impressario! Living large…an eccentric to the end!  An art lover, a music lover, a lover’s lover…a character in his own worldly theatre!  I doubt that Gino had any regrets.  Just this past May (the 10th to be exact) Gino emailed me a song request…

I Get the Blues When It Rains…

It was rain -ing, dear, when I met you
You smiled, the sun shone through
Then it rained a -gain and I lost you
Just why I nev -er knew.
Now ev -’ry time the storm clouds gath -er way up in the sky,
I see them all and I re -call those hap -py days gone by:

Chorus:
I get the blues when it rains,
The blues I can’t lose when it rains
Each lit -tle drop that falls on my win -dow pane
Al -ways re -minds me of the trears I’ve shed in vain
I sit and wait for the sun
To shine down on me once a -gain
It rained when I found you, It rained when I lost you,
That’s why I’m so blue when it rains.

You will be missed Gino! Your human experience affected many, celebrated many, adored many, and was equally revered by many!  - God Bless, Paul

Welcome Christmas is a classic hymn that was popularized by Dr. Suess in The Grinch! As a proud parent, I would like to introduce you to three of the newest stars of professional theatre :-) ! Headlining in today’s Free Christmas Download are Adrian (my son), and his best friends Lakota & McKinnely (more affectionately known as the twins)!

Ladies and gentlemen, music lovers everywhere, we introduce the triple threat of modern theatre everywhere, the solo trio of Christmas song….Adrian, and Lakota & Mcky….(who also happen to be awesome trained dancers - for those movie agents out there!)

Okay okay. It’s just a home video of my son on stage from last year’s school’s christmas production. But with 1100 people looking on, I think he did pretty well for 8 years of age! He’s nine now….and just lost two teeth this week. The tooth fairy is going to the bank as we speak!

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome Christmas,
Come this way!

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome Christmas,
Christmas Day.

Welcome, Welcome
Fah who rah-moose
Welcome, Welcome
Dah who dah-moose
Christmas day is in our grasp
So long as we have hands to clasp

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome, welcome Christmas
Welcome, welcome Christmas Day

Drugs That Help Tinnitus are few and far between. In my experience, there are NO drugs that help Tinnitus! I’ll say it again “there is no cure for ringing ears”! And you certainly won’t find a cure in a bottle. Not today. Maybe tomorrow :-) !

Now, having said that, there are drugs that help with the symptoms of Tinnitus such as depression, stress, sleeping disorders and so on. For example, some patients report that anti-depressants help them “cope” with ringing ears. If you are a chronic tinnitus sufferer, and if your are experiencing any of these symptoms, please consult your local health professional. I too was a chronic sufferer, but I changed my situation by monitoring my health and making a few lifestyle changes. To read about that click here http://www.paultobey.com/tinnitus/

The”tinnitus wonder cure in a bottle” doesn’t exist. In fact, many of those “tinnitus treatments” in a bottle can be harmful to you. So, please read the ingredients and consult your doctor before you begin a regiment of pill taking for tinnitus.

For example, I have a mild form of hemophilia. Hence, drugs like Ginko can truly be a health problem for me. In fact, when I took those so called “tinnitus cures in a bottle” I started showing massive bruising on my entire body! My Dr. alarmed me to the fact and I just got a bit wiser about what I consumed.

Another example is that I had someone write to me about his experience with consuming a Tinnitus “cure” from an internet site. After about 2 weeks he ended up in his doctors office. The Dr. reported that his patient’s blood pressure went through the roof! The Dr. pinned down the source once they managed to find out what he was doing differently. Again, the problem was in the ingredients of these “natural” cures. Chances are if your Dr. or Audiologist didn’t recommend a drug, it’s because there is nothing the FDA has yet approved that has been medically proven to help you.

Now I believe in healing through natural products. I’m not trying to say everything out there is bogus. I’m just saying before you consume anything, consult your doctor and make certain the ingredients can’t harm you or work against any prescribed meds you are currently on.

Remember, do your due diligence before you buy or consume pills.

I hope that helps you in your search. Feel free to browse other question and answer tinnitus postings.

God Bless,

Paul

News of Bernard’s death this morning comes as a bit of a shock to Nancy and I! A veteran jazz drummer, Bernard was almost a jazz institution in Montreal. I know that he was very well liked by presenters and in touring circles. He toured and played consistantly, and I think was an excellent example of how a jazz musician could create and sustain a solid jazz career in the Canadian Jazz Industry. I spent 15 years of my early jazz career in Montreal, and I can remember hopping in and out of Montreal clubs where most often Bernard would be leading somewhere on drums. I even played a couple of gigs with him.He was still young, only 67…and set to release his new jazz album today. Bernard was part of my musical mapping and I’m truly hopeful that Bernard knew that he has inspired many young artists. Most importantly, he lived with purpose doing what he loved. That is the highest form of inspiration.

Our family offers its deepest condolences to Bernard’s family, loved ones, friends and fellow jazzers. You’ll be in our prayers today.
