“A Musical Journey Through Spain”

Tinnitus Ringing In Ears Driving You Crazy?

Recently my story was published in “Tinnitus Today” the journal for the American Tinnitus Association. It’s an authentic account of my six year journey in search of relief from Tinnitus.

I suffered from a severe and chronic ringing in the ears and a slew of other symptoms like lack of sleep, depression, physical pain in the head, and hyperacusis. However, over the years, I have stopped being a victim of tinnitus. I now live what I like to call “a Tinnitus Free Life!” Click here to read that article.

Paul Tobey and Wife Nancy Houle

As a result of that article, I’ve received many emails and letters from people all over who are currently suffering from tinnitus and are looking for help. That’s why I’ve decided to put together this professional package entitled “A Practical Guide to Tinnitus Free Living.” Quite frankly though, I don’t want to give the impression that what has worked for me will work for everybody. While I do give valuable information, you must remember that I am not a medical professional, I am not a Dr., I am not an audiologist. I am someone who has conquered his fight with Tinnitus. Everybody’s healing journey is different. However, what I teach may resonate with you and lead you to your own tinnitus free living success.

My professional career as a pianist is constantly in the public eye and for that very reason I hesitated to put this package together. I feared being appearing vulnerable to those who do not understand the plight of the Tinnitus sufferer. However, my intention is to help people.

I now live a 100% Tinnitus Free Life. That means that the Tinnitus no longer controls me. I’m out of the vicious loop of stress, anxiety, no sleep, and chronic suffering. I have chosen to not take anti-depressants, and I found a life of abundance. And, you too have the power to do exactly the same thing. Will it take some work on your part, you bet! But anything worthwhile takes some effort, don’t you agree?

I once spent $4,000 on Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, thousands more on natural meds, shamans, healers, messages, and all sorts of potential cures. I had to find my own healing. I share how I did that very candidly with you, in hope that it may serve as a beacon for you to find a Tinnitus Free life.

Click here to get your “Practical Guide to Tinnitus Free Living.”

I’m still getting emails in response to my tinnitus story that was published by the American Tinnitus Association. Some are wonderful testimonials of chronic Tinnitus sufferers who have found relief by making serious life-style changes. I too made those life-style changes which healed alot of my suffering. I talk about this very candidly in my audio seminar. You can order it now by clicking tinnitus help.
Sadly, many of the emails I get from Tinnitus sufferers are expressing fear, anger, depression and withdrawal from life. Though I try to write back to everyone personally, I can only try to inspire from the perspective that I was once a chronic victim to Tinnitus. I am not a Doctor, Psychologist, Neurologist or Audiologist. The only thing that qualifies me to speak on the subject of Tinnitus, is that one time, my chronic suffering created a downward out of control spiral into massive depression. I remember with great clarity what that “feels” like. However, I did manage to climb out of that vicious circle of stress, no sleep, severe tinnitus, etc. I can share insight as to “how” I did it, and perhaps some of the things I say may resonate with you. Perhaps some of the things I did could be useful in your own life.

If you are suffering from chronic Tinnitus, and it is causing you to spiral into depression, please consult your physician, or contact your local Tinnitus Support Group.

Wishing you wellness,

Paul

If you are here, it’s because you are hoping to find cures for tinnitus, or a treatment for ringing in the ears. I keep a pretty close eye on what’s new when it comes to “treatment for ringing in the ears” and I try to stay on top of the “tinnitus news” when it comes to “2006 tinnitus research”.

Whether you are searching for “sound therapy tinnitis”, or you wonder “does vitamin e help tinnitus”, or you are looking for “drugs that help tinnitus”, or you are looking to find any way to help you sleep due to lack of sleep because of Tinnitus, you have come to the right place.

If you wonder if “white noise therapy” or “white noise for sleeping” will help, you have to take it from an ex-chronic Tinnitus sufferer…I’ve looked long and hard for “tinnitus relief” and a “cure for ringing in the ears”. I too was in desperate search of that “miracle Tinnitus drug” and tried everything. Well almost everything!

There are many “causes for ringing ears” or “buzzing in ear”, and much “tinnitus research” is being done to help “Cure Tinnitus”. Yet a “treatment for tinnitus” or “help for tinnitus” sufferers can be an exhausting and depressing journey. I want to help you in your search, and make things a lot easier for you!

I too spent thousands of dollars on finding “tinnitus relief” and “tinnitus remedy” including thousands of dollars on “tinnitus retraining therapy” better known as “TRT” or “tinnitus maskers”. I suffered from chronic tinnitus and “hyperacusis” and depression. I tried “white noise therapy”. I joined a “tinnitus support group” to find “help with tinnitus” where I learned about all these so called “cures for tinnitus”.

Yet I was desperate and tried highly recommended “tinnitus home remedies”, a variety of herbal magic “medication for tinnitus” and a large menue of “treatments for tinitus”. I was so convinced that the “tinnitus cure” was outside of me, that I gave my money over to anyone who promised “drugs that help tinnitus” were going to help me and the miracle cure was only a phone call away. I even went as far as Japan to meet healers and get treatment! If I could, I’d find that magic man on the hill in India and pay my house, two cars and even my piano to get that cure!

I would have tried anything! I just read lately that some tinnitus sufferers are drinking urine as a potential cure! If I didn’t know what I know now, I certainly would have tried drinking urine as a therapy if there was a single chance it would work! I know people who tried “cognitive behavioral therapy for tinnitus”. I’ve read about “tinnitus research treatment Europe”. I’ve read about “sound therapy tinnitus” and all about “tinitus research”. I probably tried a good 50% of all the promised therapy and so called “herbal medicine for tinnitus” out there! And receipts to prove it!

Don’t get fooled by the bogus claims. Start where there is great information at the “American Tinnitus Association” website. There are wonderful people out there doing great work for “tinnitus research”. Your “tinnitus recovery” is a journey you must navigate with wisdom, and most of it will be on your own. Before you make choises about anti-depressants, herbal meds, maskers, urine therapy, or any kind of therapy, please do your due diligence and consult your doctors, consult the “American Tinnitus Association”, consult your local “tinnitus research” group, consult tinnitus resources, patients, and news. Ask plenty of questions! But start by asking YOURSELF the important questions.

For this very reason, I put together a one hour downloadable seminar you can listen to, so you get an idea of my tinnitus journey, what has helped me, and how I live a Full and Abundant Tinnitus Free life. I too was a chronic tinnitus sufferer, but I turned it around. So before you go looking for all the answers that exist outside of you, start looking for the obvious answers that are “inside” of you!

Wishing you a Tinnitus Free Life,

Paul Tobey

P.S. You have “buzzing in ears”, “ringing in ears”, “hyperacusis”, and you are seeking “tinnitus treatments”, please stay on top of “tinnitus news” like Tinnitus Today. Remember as of August 15 2006, there is no “cure for ringing ears” or “cure for Tinnitus”. Stop here for a second and think about what your Tinnitus is teaching you about yourself, and the type of things you must learn to improve your life situation. If you are not convinced that Tinnitus can improve you, your life situation, and everyone in your life, listen to the download.

There is a quote from the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho which reads; “There is only one way to learn. It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey.”I try to live my life by this mantra. In fact, that is one of the reasons why I did my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella. I realized that only through taking action would I be able to heal myself from that which was bothering me. And, on that pilgrimage I learned a lot. Mainly; it’s about the journey and not the destination.

Therefore, right now I am trying not to focus on getting to my symphony concert next February but rather enjoying the journey toward it. I’m enjoying arranging for orchestra and that’s what I should be focusing on. And, everytime I write it brings me right back to my journey in 2004. I will make some of this music available to you all very soon.

Back in the spring of 2004 (A Holy Year), with nothing more than 2 shirts, 2 pairs of underwear and one pair of pants I set out on a 60 day adventure of a lifetime on the Camino de Santiago with my camera man Drew Dekker. We walked 850 km across Nothern Spain from Roncessvalles to Santiago de Compostela and then to Finnisterre (the western most point in Europe).

I was 40 years old at the time, disallusioned with my jazz piano music career, secretly hoping for a miracle cure for tinnitus and suffering from a mild mid-life crisis. While most guys would just go out and buy a new sports car or find a mistress, I decided on a pilgrimage. Anyway, what jazz pianist do you know that can afford
a mid-life crisis? It was time for something to happen in my life. I was emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally ready for change.

If Dante, Michelangelo, Shirley MacLaine and Paulo Coelho could all be artists greatly inspired by the Camino, surely it would contain the same magic for me! I decided to see first hand how this pilgrimage could inspire new music. Oh ya, and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to film the journey as well.
So I posted an online ad “camera man for hire” and a DOP named Drew Dekker responded within 5 minutes. He spoke spanish, had sufficient professional credits, was a world-traveller and he was young enough and strong enough to cary most of our camera gear. I said, “You’re Hired,” with little to no hesitation. And, am I ever glad I did because Drew carried over 26 kilos in his backpack, spoke amazing Spanish and was just an excellent friend!

Our journey was simply amazing and we shot over 60 hours of incredible footage! But, it’s been 2 years now and I’m still sitting on it. I keep promising pilgrims that I will get this movie done. But regardless of my really good intentions, I have yet to find the financing and the time ! And truthfully, I haven’t been able to convince a TV station that my story is worthy of airtime. So, instead, I did a quick edit of the footage, added my music and voila… “a humourous but candid story about a modern day pilgrim.”

We carried our equipment on our backs, suffered from major blisters, sore knees, bruised bodies and so on. We had no back-up camera crews or gear waiting for us. If our equipment went down, got stolen, or we injured ourselves, that was it. This was going to be done on pure will alone. But because we were authentic pilgrims, actually doing the hard work, our cameras were allowed in places that no professional crews would be allowed in. Honestly, Drew had a way with women…I mean people! (and yes, we did get release forms!)

In this film I interview some interesting pilgrims, take you inside a refugio (pilgrim’s hostel), perform an impromptu concert on a 300 year old organ, jump from a 40 foot bridge and participate in the famous pilgrim’s blessing at Santiago de Compostella. Visually there is some beautiful filming that takes you directly on the pilgrim’s path.

What is the pilgrimmage like? Ask anyone who’s ever done it, and you’ll get a completely different picture about what it is, how hard it was, what did you learn, how much walking is there, what kind of shoes did you wear, what is there to eat, where did you sleep, what did you do with your free time, how many people did you meet etc etc etc….every Camino is different.

What was my Camino like? I walked the camino as a pianist and composer and so my pilgrimmage was extremely musical and ended up writing 22 compositions. The really interesting part is that I am a jazz player, which means I tend to write for small ensembles. Yet, for some reason, I wrote mostly for symphony. Composing for symphony was the furthest thing from my mind when I left Canada and I’ve never written anything for it before. So what inspired me along the road? Who knows! But 2 years later, I get to be at my own world-premiere of this music with the symphony next Feb 18th, 2007! The music is almost a film-score type of music with influences of classical, jazz and spanish folk. It’s big, inspirational and filled with emotional bliss. The Road does work in Mysterious ways! Perhaps I found my miracle after all….

Ok, I’ve been asked this a million times…. “Are There Drugs That Help Tinnitus?” Based on my experience there are no drugs that help tinnitus. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any because everyone is different and what may work for one person may not work for another. But, consider this. Drugs caused my tinnitus! I had a virus and I took an over-the-counter medication to alleviate the symptoms. And voila! Next morning I woke up with a jet engine in my head and it’s been there for the last 6 years.

My advice! Avoid over-the-counter medication at all costs. In fact, the warning leaflet inside the box said (in very small print) “may cause ringing in the ears.” Duh! If I’d known I would have never taken it. But, if you read my other posts, I’m not at all bitter about this. Why? Because tinnitus was a blessing in disguise. As a result, I’m a better person, I eat better, I’m much more healthy and spiritually grounded.
